About

Sebastian Sonnewend is a German Polish visual artist, art director, desginer and illustrator based in Munich.
His work is dedicated to explore simple and often humorous ideas or observations, on paper with carefully planed, minimalistic and geometric strokes of acrylic markers. The artworks deal with the juxtaposition between aesthetics and the flawed. Each piece is a reflection of the current zeitgeist and pop culture. Through the acrylic marker technique which allows no repetitions or corrections an unique result is created.

Growing up in a family of artists, Sebastian was confronted with the visual arts quite early. He spent his childhood and youth in art academies, exhibition openings, theater rehearsals, museums or in the studios of his parents or their acquaintances. From lithography, sculpture, drawing to video art, he could try almost every form of artistic expression. This then inevitably led to study at an art academy.

Sebastian studied in Enschede, the Netherlands, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Art & Crossmedia Design. His path then led him into the advertising world where he designed commercials for large and small clients for over 11 years. Recently he started working full time as a visual artist and freelance art director.
